The Board of Directors of City Trusts said Friday it has named Clarence Armbrister interim president of Girard College, effective July 1.
Armbrister, 55, had been senior vice president and chief of staff at Johns Hopkins University?
in Baltimore. Other positions he has held include chief of staff to Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, chief operating officer at Temple University? and managing director of the Philadelphia School District.Armbrister succeeds Autumn Graves, who is leaving June 30 after three years. His term will be two years.
Girard is a private boarding school in North Philadelphia that provides free education, room and board for 465 students in grades one through 12 from single parent families. It opened in 1848 and was created by the will of Stephen Girard, who was the richest man in America when he died in 1831.
The Board of Directors of City Trusts, which is appointed by and responsible to the judges of the Courts of Common Pleas of Philadelphia, oversee its administration.
