First Test: India four wickets away from win (Tea Report)

India claimed five wickets in the afternoon session to restrict New Zealand to 146/6 at tea on the fourth day of the first cricket Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here Sunday.

The Black Caps still need 134 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

After not losing any wicket in the morning session, the visitors kept losing them at regular intervals, scoring only 53 runs in 27 overs.

Pacer Umesh Yadav took his second wicket of the match as he trapped Brendon McCullum (42) in front of the stumps. However, a review of the decision showed that the batsman had edged the ball on to the pad. A furious McCullum left the ground shaking his head.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who clinched six wickets in the first innings, was again in action as he bowled Kiwi skipper Ross Taylor for seven.

Ashwin also despatched Daniel Flynn for 11 after he trapped him in front of the stumps.

A splendid one-handed catch by Virender Sehwag got Ashwin his third scalp. James Franklin, at five, edged one to backward short-leg which a diving Sehwag caught just before tea was called.

New Zealand were 92 for one at lunch time.
